Beer-lar Morghu-ale-lis

That title was a stretch, eh?  Sorry that is all I got today.  Why?  Because a certain awesome TV show is back this weekend and I can’t wait!  No, it is not that awful boring zombie show.  In fact, that show just ended, I can only hope it is for good.  The show I speak of is, Game of Thrones.

GoT is a show that has actually inspired good beer unlike that aforementioned zombie show that only inspired a beer brewed with goat brains brewed out of Philadelphia.  Eww, I know right, Philadelphia, gross!  Anyway, with the GoT premier this Sunday you will want to make sure to stock up on the latest offering of tasty GoT beer from Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown, NY.

So far Ommegang has released 5 brews for you to drink alongside your favorite episodes of Game of Thrones.  The first one was ‘Iron Throne’ which is a Blonde Ale with lemon peel and grains of paradise.  The next release was ‘Take the Black’ stout which would keep any Crow warm while manning the wall.

The next two release after that were ‘Fire and Blood’ named for House Targaryen which is a Red Ale featuring Ancho Chilies (Bobby Flay would love this brew).  Then straight from the shores of Braavos came ‘Valar Morghulis’, a Dubbel Ale with caramel, toffee, ripe fruit and burnt sugar aromas.  After tasting this you will know why ‘all men must die’, which is clearly so you can have all the beer to yourself of course.

The latest release in this delicious series is ‘Three-Eyed Raven’.  Three-Eyed Raven is an ambitious dark saison ale.  This beer is said to be jet black, like a raven. It is still light like a traditional saison with a malty body and a hint of sweetness.  Be sure to grab this one before the premier this Sunday.

All of these brews can be paired with any number of Game of Thrones themed dishes from crabs to herring to duck to capon to peacocks to suckling pigs to aurochs to various cheeses to even tasty lemon cakes.  If you are like me, you will be roasting something and drinking a few goblets of these come Sunday.
